Sol Cresta was supposed to launch in December 9, 2021, but the developers had to postpone it, and hoped to release it sometime this year. The delay was due to technical problems.

Now, Platinum Games has finally announced the much-awaited game’s release date. Sol Cresta will be available starting February 22 for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. It will also be playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.

The announcement for the game’s release date came during a developer livestream, which also featured a lot of gameplay. You can watch it in the video below:

Sol Cresta is the official successor to arcade classics “Moon Cresta” (1980) and “Terra Cresta” (1985). Platinum Games first announced it as an April Fool’s Day joke, but the entire thing received immensely positive response from its community. With this, the developers decided to go with it and now the game will soon be launching.

“The idea behind it is not to look at a particular IP or game, but to take the feel of those older games of the 8-bit and 16-bit era and bring back the days when you really had to find the fun and not have all these bells and whistles of today,” Platinum Games said. “We have the technology now to improve on some of those ideas or maybe do some pillars that weren’t possible back then, but you still have the gameplay and the core mechanics.”
