Waste The Fallen shifts from traditional military shooters to a Lovecraftian survival experience
Key Takeaways
  • Royal Crow officially revealed Waste The Fallen, a Lovecraftian extraction shooter built on Unreal Engine 5 for PC.
  • The gameplay features a unique Sanity system, a forgiving safebox mechanic, and squad-based survival for up to three players.
  • A North American PC Closed Alpha test runs from September 4 to September 8 via Steam.

What is Waste The Fallen?

Waste The Fallen is a first-person extraction shooter developed by Royal Crow for PC via Steam. The game blends cosmic horror with survival mechanics in a setting known as the Deep. Players scavenge for resources, fight grotesque creatures called the Fallen, and extract loot to upgrade their hideouts.

Developer Royal Crow built the title using Unreal Engine 5, marking a significant genre shift following the closure of CROWZ. The South Korean studio focuses on creating an approachable extraction loop.

Producer Byungnam Choi confirmed in an official press release that the development team designed the structure to reward curiosity rather than punishing minor mistakes.

Players assume the role of scavengers known as Deviants. These characters navigate decaying ruins either alone or in three-person squads.

Gameplay Mechanics and the Sanity System

Royal Crow integrates psychological horror directly into the survival loop. The environment grows increasingly hostile as expeditions extend, forcing players to manage their mental state alongside their physical ammunition.

Waste The Fallen introduces a Sanity system that tracks psychological stress. The studio explicitly designed the horror to act as a tangible gameplay constraint rather than just visual dressing.

To offset the genre’s typical high-stakes punishment, Royal Crow implemented a forgiving inventory system. An oversized safebox protects a large portion of gathered resources upon death. Scavenged materials feed directly into player progression. Deviants upgrade a prosthetic limb called the Bio-Arm and expand production facilities within a personal hideout between raids.

Closed Alpha Details and How to Play

North American PC players will test the server stability and extraction mechanics during the first official preview event. The studio restricts this initial test phase entirely to the Steam platform.

The Closed Alpha begins on September 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. PT and concludes on September 8 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Interested participants must register through the official Waste The Fallen website.

Tencent subsidiary Aceville Pte. Ltd. backs the studio financially, providing the resources necessary for this Unreal Engine 5 project. The development leadership includes veterans from prominent Korean shooters like Sudden Attack and Dekaron.

Royal Crow has not confirmed a final release date or console ports. The current development roadmap focuses entirely on refining the PC build.
