Atari has announced that at the end of March, it will celebrate 25 years of one of the most beloved and sometimes hated series in the simulation and construction landscape. We’re talking about RollerCoaster Tycoon, a classic series born in 1999, celebrating its 25th anniversary on 31 March 2024.
In anticipation of this anniversary, Atari and the team behind the RollerCoaster Tycoon series promise new gameplay content, collectibles, and even exclusive interviews.
The RollerCoaster Tycoon series stems from the mind of Scottish programmer Chris Sawyer in 1999. The series’ goal is to build your dream amusement park but also manage it in all its aspects, deciding on the types of rides and attractions, as well as the types of shops, stalls, and park services. There’s an increasing complexity in attracting new visitors and maintaining a high reputation. But what has certainly attracted players over the years is how this experience was akin to a classic sandbox, offering the freedom to indulge in attractions and park layouts, sometimes leading to a spiral of violence against guests!
Overall, the series has enjoyed good success over the years with four main series titles and several spin-offs on various platforms. This has allowed the series, despite over two decades behind it, to remain in the hearts of its fans thanks to simple yet entertaining gameplay.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the series, Atari, in collaboration with Chris Sawyer himself, will mark the occasion on 31 March 2024, with not only anniversary gameplay content but also collectibles, including a unique item signed by Chris himself.
Certainly, there will be some surprises throughout the month, and it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to expect the announcement of a new installment in the series, possibly one from the main series, which, after World in 2016, focused on spin-offs. In any case, on 31 March , we’ll learn more, thanks to an exclusive interview created just for the occasion.
