Ravenous Horde Goes From Free-to-Play to Paid on December 6th

Ravenous Horde will move to a paid model starting December 6th after solo dev studio admits to major financial failure.

Ravenous Horde launched as a free-to-play zombie game on November 6, 2025. However after just 2 weeks from release, Vector Interactive, a solo game dev studio, announced that the game barely made anything and that the only way to move forward is to make it a paid one.

Ravenous Horde Moves to A Paid Model to Recover Financially

Vector Interactive didn’t shy away from the failure of its game. At launch, Ravenous Horde had about 17k wishlists, which for an indie dev, is a good number and is something to be excited for. To date, over 50k Steam users have added it to their library which, again, for an indie dev, is great news.

However, those numbers didn’t translate to success and profitability. It’s an F2P game so it was relying on microtransaction and DLC to earn which didn’t do so well. Like $203-in-gross-revenue not well.

It’s a tough industry but Vector Interactive isn’t looking at the industry alone as to why it failed. In a very honest letter to the community, the dev looked at all the wrong decisions that were made and what he can possibly do to save it somehow.

According to the Steam update, the genre (multiplayer only), F2P model, lack of flashy microtransactions, and weak server at launch played major roles in its failure.

Moving forward, Vector Interactive decided that the only way out so he can continue working on the game is to make it a paid one. Starting on December 6th, it will be sold at about $10 and all microtransactions will be free.

Players who were able to download the game for free before the 6th can keep the game.
