Ratata Arts has confirmed that Ratatan needs a few more months of development to reach its target quality
Key Takeaways
  • Ratatan’s official launch date has shifted from mid-July to October 15, 2026, across all platforms.
  • The development team is utilizing the extra time to implement extensive structural changes based on Early Access feedback.
  • Producer Kazuto Sakajiri confirmed the delay is necessary to guarantee a seamless online multiplayer experience across all hardware ecosystems.

Why Was Ratatan Delayed to October 2026?

Ratatan has been officially delayed to October 15, 2026, to allow the development team more time for polishing and bug fixing. Publisher Game Source Entertainment and developer Ratata Arts confirmed that adapting the game for multiple platforms and integrating robust online support required an extended production schedule.

While the game was originally slated for a mid-July launch, the team realized that meeting their internal quality standards necessitated a pushback. In a recent update to backers on Steam, the studio explained that getting close to the finish line revealed unforeseen challenges that needed immediate attention.

How Early Access Feedback Shaped Development

The decision to launch Ratatan into Early Access on PC proved to be a pivotal moment for the project’s overall scope and final design.

Executive Producer Kazuto Sakajiri noted that the initial development plan did not account for the sheer volume of structural changes prompted by player input.

Due to that feedback, Ratatan is even better than we planned,” Sakajiri stated, acknowledging that backer support has been the driving force behind the game’s evolution. This community-driven approach has allowed the team to refine the core rhythm-action mechanics, though it ultimately stretched the timeline.

The Road to Launch Across All Platforms

Ratatan is preparing for a comprehensive launch across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 this fall. The expanded scope reflects the studio’s ambition to deliver a seamless online multiplayer experience simultaneously across all hardware ecosystems. Coming after the confirmation in March of the original Switch port being cancelled.

Sakajiri emphasized that the backers are considered friends who helped build the game, reinforcing the studio’s commitment to delivering a polished final product. Players can continue to test the current build on PC via Early Access while waiting for the full 1.0 release this October.
