The Sony PlayStation VR2 is out, and the reaction has been rather mixed, so here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of buying the headset.
The PSVR2 is not a cheap accessory; it costs $549.99/£529.99/€599.99, and when you think the PlayStation 5 costs up to $499.99/£479.99/€549.99, the cost really adds up.
You have to ask yourself if it’s worth paying more than the PS5 for something still considered a niche by many.
Playing in VR is incredible, and that special feeling of being inside the game never goes away, but the games will never quite reach what other platforms offer.
Yes, the PlayStation VR2 has No Man’s Sky, Pavlov VR, and Creed: Rise to Glory, but the PC has those games and will always likely do them better than the PSVR2.
So, the PSVR2 will get the odd PlayStation-exclusive title, but it will never have games like Half-Life: Alyx.
As mentioned, the immersion felt in VR is unrivaled. Still, VR technology is always evolving, and one area that VR headsets need to do is remove physical cables, like the Meta Quest 2.
The PSVR2 must be connected to the PS5 via its 4.5-meter-long cable, and although that seems long enough, there will be plenty of times you trip or tangle yourself in the cable.
It’s still an incredible piece of technology, though, and if you love VR and own a PS5, the PSVR2 will upgrade your gaming experience.
Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 is incredible, and if you have a PS5, it’s a must-have for serious gamers, but casual gamers may want to avoid it.
