Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene and PlayerUnknown Productions have revealed ambitious plans to create a new FPS/RTS capable of supporting 100 vs 100 player matches.

The announcement by Brendan Greene highlights PlayerUnknown Productions’ ambitious plans to release a trio of titles to test technology that will hopefully be a game-changer for the industry.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Greene shared his vision for the three games, the first of which is the upcoming Prologue: Go Wayback!, which launches on Steam in Early Access on November 20, 2025.
The New Scale of Conflict: 100 vs 100
Explaining his plans for the first-person shooter, Greene revealed that the game will “test limited multiplayer, maybe up to 100 versus 100 players,” and would be more of an “FPS/RTS mix.”
While the shooter remains for the moment in his head, Greene says the aim is to test FPS mechanics, we can test interaction between NPCs, we can try testing these networking protocols at scale.”
The Melba Engine: Departing from Battle Royale
Despite the interview not revealing more specific details, it’s clear PlayerUnknown Productions is heavily investing in next-generation technology with its in-house Melba engine focusing on “generating terrain, enabling players to create their own planets, and having a network that works for whatever you want to use it for.”
The new direction for Greene and the studio is part of a “10-year plan” to produce the three games, with the third focusing on big-scale multiplayer,” possibly a lot larger than 100 vs 100 players.
Project Artemis and the 10-Year Vision
With a 10-year plan in place and an emphasis on large-scale multiplayer as part of its Project Artemis campaign, PlayerUnknown Productions is clearly committed to exploring the long-term potential of technology capable of supporting an unmatched level of visual fidelity and mechanical complexity.
Fans will be eager to learn more of the studio’s plans, waiting to see if Greene can once again pioneer a new sub-genre within the highly competitive multiplayer shooter space.
The Road Ahead: From Prologue to Planet-Sized War
The grand ambition, starting with the early testing phase of Prologue: Go Wayback! on November 20, is to push the Melba engine to its limits and pioneer a new genre of 100 vs 100 FPS/RTS gaming.
