A new pirate game is in town and it’s already gotten the attention of more than 1M gamers. Thanks to the newly released demo on Steam, Windrose has now surpassed 1M wishlists and considering all the feedback pouring in, that number doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down anytime soon. For an indie pirate adventure to stir up this much excitement, Windrose Crew is definitely sitting on a treasure chest.

Windrose Demo Out, Passes 1M Wishlists

The Windrose Crew has got something incredible in their hands. Windrose, their upcoming pirate game which was initially called Crosswind, is currently participating in Steam Next Fest and released its demo just a few days ago. And it blew everyone’s mind. More than 1 million gamers, to be specific. The team proudly announced that the game has surpassed 1 million wishlists, a massive milestone for an indie project carving its path in a sea dominated by AAA giants.

For those who haven’t been following Windrose, it’s an open-world pirate survival adventure set across a sprawling archipelago. Players command their own ship, explore untamed islands, gather resources, craft gear, engage in naval combat, and board enemy vessels in cinematic fashion. The game blends survival mechanics with swashbuckling action, offering a sandbox where freedom, danger, and discovery collide.

While the team has yet to reveal an official release date (which comes out on Early Access first), people can already experience the game with a newly launched Steam demo.

The demo delivers roughly four to six hours of gameplay, more if played at a slower pace. So yes, no time limit so everyone can savor every bit of the adventure.

It lets players explore the first three islands of the Archipelago, complete early quests, and command their first ship. Naval combat, boarding, and core gameplay systems like weapons, enemies, and survival mechanics are all included.

Co-op is available through player-hosted sessions for up to four players. Dedicated servers are not supported in the demo yet but are planned for Early Access release. While the demo represents the game now, it’s still a long road to launch so players can expect some changes between now and then. And with that, progress during the demo will not carry over to the full game.

Apart from it’s such a fun game already at this stage, there’s also an extra incentive to jump in now. Players who even just launch the demo get a decorative spyglass that can be used to customize their pirate base once Early Access begins.

A brand-new trailer is set to premiere on February 25th during IGN Fan Fest, giving players a closer look at Windrose’s world, combat, and pirate adventures.

Many players are already impressed with nearly everything the demo has to offer. In fact, some are calling it a blend of the best parts of Sea of Thieves, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Sid Meier’s Pirates!.
