As expected, Phantom Blade Zero made an appearance in the recently concluded PlayStation State of Play. While it brought all its glory visually, showing off that incredibly fluid martial arts action we have been tracking, the developer and S-GAME CEO had some unfortunate news about its release date. It is delayed. The good news is, not by a lot.

Phantom Blade Zero has been making a mark gradually over the past years. Its presence in gaming events, casual drop of teasers, and even hands-on playable demos at events for those lucky enough to attend have steadily built up a massive following. It’s a good and strong build-up to its initial release date of September 9, 2026.
However, the special teaser released during the State of Play did not include the date. It only noted that a full trailer and the preorder will go live this summer. This naturally worried fans that a delay was in place. True enough, after the broadcast, developer S-GAME announced that the game is now launching on October 29, 2026 as additional time is needed for polishing and refinements.
The studio also shared that while these can be delivered via post-launch updates, they believe that players who will join them on day one deserve the best version of the game. And that people, is respect.
For years, the industry has normalized releasing games first and fixing them later. Seeing a studio choose a short delay instead of relying on future updates is difficult to argue against, especially when the additional wait is in weeks and not months.
More Phantom Blade Zero Is Coming This Summer

If the game needs cooking, by all means, do it. Games do not come cheap and players deserve a product that feels complete when they press start on launch day.

The new October release date does come with its own challenges. October 29 places Phantom Blade Zero dangerously close to the launch of GTA VI, a game that many publishers have been actively trying to avoid.
