Palia Lays Off Third of Devs

Singularity 6 Corporation, the studio behind the cozy MMO Palia has laid off 35% off its workforce in another blow for the industry that has seen over 8,000 jobs lost in the first few months of 2024 already.

Following recent lay offs at Sony, who let go 900 people across its games business, including at Naughty Dog and Insomniac games, and Electronic Arts who announced the decision to lay off 5% of its workforce which resulted in the cancelation of the Star Wars Mandalorian vide game, Singularity 6 has followed suit in what is becoming the norm in the industry.

In a statement given to IGN, Singularity 6 clarified that the lay offs at Palia will mean they can “deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability.”

The studio does promise to support those who have been released from their position and asked for “understanding and support of our studio and affected team members.”

It is a blow to those affected, but at the moment, at least, Palia seems to have a future, with the studio promising “new content, improvements, and bug fixes well into the future” just a couple of weeks ago.
