Obsidian Unveils Grounded 2 – What’s New in the Co-Op Survival Game?

Grounded 2 Available in July in Early Access on Steam, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Game Pass

Grounded 2 is the second chapter of the beloved survival adventure from Obsidian Entertainment. The first chapter launched in Early Access in July 2020 on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. It quickly captivated many players, offering a miniature adventure inspired by films like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and A Bug’s Life

In the game, we play as 4 young kids trying to survive in a backyard, a kingdom ruled by insects and other animals, adding a twist of mystery and investigation to the experience. The official launch took place on April 26, 2024, with the game also arriving on PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Grounded 2 – Reveal and Release Date

At the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025, we also got an extended showcase for The Outer Worlds 2. But to everyone’s surprise, the team from Obsidian Entertainment also announced Grounded 2. A highly anticipated second chapter of the co-op survival adventure with insects and other animals. The announcement was accompanied by the Official Trailer, which takes us 2 years after the events of the first game.

During the celebration of the young Max, Pete, Willow, and Hoops, a tragedy strikes with an explosion at Brookhollow Park. Where the kids will be shrunk, forcing them to use their teamwork and skills for a new survival adventure in an even bigger world. Grounded 2 is confirmed for an Early Access launch on July 29, 2025 on Steam and Xbox Series X/S, as well as Xbox Game Pass.

 

Grounded 2: What’s New in the Sequel

Incredible news for fans of the first game, as they’ll get to experience a new co-op survival adventure this summer. The team at Obsidian shared many details about the game on the Xbox Wire. Here’s what’s new in the sequel:

  • Larger World: A new miniature adventure in the vast Brookhollow Park with many new biomes and secrets. New resources like snack bars and ice cream carts, plus classic returns from the Punch-O and Minotaurs & Myrmidons
  • New Insects: In this new location, you’ll encounter many new insects, as well as returning classics like Ladybugs and Ants. New gameplay dynamics and challenges await!
  • New Features and Improvements: Improved gameplay, including dodges and more reactive AI. The new Omni-Tool combines a hammer, axe, shovel, and wrench into one handy multi-tool. Plus, the addition of Buggies, allowing you to ride an insect companion to explore and fight!

The Obsidian team confirms that the Early Access will be packed with content and will bring back many classic features. Fans are invited to join not only the game, available from April 29, 2025, but also the Official Discord, where they can share feedback and help shape the development of the sequel.
