What is Xbox Game Pass Core? What’s included in the subscription?

Xbox Game Pass Core is not just a mere replacement but more of an evolution of Xbox Live Gold come September 14, 2023.

It does not really come as a surprise that Microsoft is rebranding this subscription as the brand Xbox Live itself was changed to Xbox Network a few years ago.

Xbox Game Pass Core and Xbox Live Globe are practically the same, being as it’s the platform’s online multiplayer network. It also comes with the standard deals and discount Live Gold came with. However, the 2 free games per month benefit will not be carried over to Xbox Game Pass Core.

Instead, a well curated pool of big games are automatically included in the Core subscription. It was reported that there will be at least 25 titles of which 19 of those have been officially announced when Xbox Game Pass Core goes live.

We will have to wait in the next couple of months for the remainder of the list. Of course this list will change in the future and it’s been reported that titles will be added two to three times a year.

What happens to my Xbox Live Gold subscription on September 14, 2023?

If you’re an existing Xbox Live Gold member, the transition is automatic and there is no change in pricing. The only difference will depend on if you will renew your Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate subscription when your plan expires.

This is because the Xbox One games you redeemed through Games with Gold will only remain in your library if you have those subscriptions. On the brighter side, the Xbox 360 titles you got with Gold will remain in your library regardless of subscription status.

Games with Gold service will permanently shut down on September 1, 2023.

How much is the Xbox Game Pass Core?

Xbox Game Pass Core remains at Xbox Live Gold’s existing monthly price at $9.99/£6.99 a month, or $59.99/£49.99 a year. Below is the official pricing for all Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
