MLB The Show 26 Release Date, Cover Athlete, and Preorder Details Revealed

MLB The Show 26 release date, preorder details, and cover athlete revealed including Aaron Judge’s return and early access information.

Sony San Diego has finally pulled back the curtain on the next chapter of its long-running franchise and MLB The Show 26 is now fully locked in. The release date, cover athlete, and preorder details have all been revealed so players can now have a clear look at what’s coming and when they expect to be back on the field.

MLB The Show 26: Release Date, Editions, and Preorder Information

Interestingly, none of this news truly came as a shock. Before the official announcement went live, reliable leaker billbil-kun had already shared nearly every single detail ahead of time, and once again, everything turned out to be spot on. From dates to editions, the accuracy was perfect. So when the announcement finally arrived, it felt less like a surprise and more like a welcome confirmation, along with another reminder that billbil-kun remains one of the most dependable sources out there.

MLB The Show 26 launches on March 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, although there is currently no dedicated version designed specifically for that platform.

Players will be able to choose between a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition, which the latter grants owners early access starting on March 13. Preorders officially open on February 3 at 8AM PT / 11AM ET / 4PM GMT.

Aaron Judge Returns as Cover Athlete

The cover athlete reveal ended up being a little more confusing than expected. Prior to the full reveal, MLB The Show shared a statement saying they had decided not to feature a new cover athlete this year. If you’re anything like me and tend to read things a little too fast, it was easy to assume that meant no cover athlete at all for MLB The Show 26. But then that assumption missed one very important word. New.

Instead of introducing a fresh face, MLB The Show is bringing back Aaron Judge, making him one of only two players in franchise history to appear on the cover twice. The only other player to accomplish that feat is Twins Hall of Fame catcher Joe Mauer, who appeared on the covers of MLB The Show 10 and MLB The Show 11.

Judge previously graced the cover of MLB The Show 18,and his return feels fitting given his (continued) stature in the game. The MLB The Show 26 cover art features Judge wearing both his New York Yankees pinstripes and his Team USA uniform, with the Yankees look serving as the primary visual focus.
