Forza Horizon 6 has been a huge success and deserves every bit of praise it has received. As far as modern driving games are concerned, it easily sits at the top of the list for almost any gamer who loves the open road. But a new contender is beginning to emerge and it won’t be long before it’s fully revealed. In fact, we’ve already gotten an early glimpse of what it has to offer ahead of its official showcase today.

Maverick Games Set to Reveal Its New Racing Game Today

Competition or not, how do you top something like Forza Horizon 6? It is a tough mountain to climb but the answer might come from the people who helped build the foundation of that very franchise. Headed by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown, Maverick Games is counting down the final hours to the reveal of its new racing title.

While a lot of news items point towards a debut at PlayStation’s State of Play, Maverick Games is actually hosting its own reveal event first. The studio’s presentation lands on June 2nd at 3AM PT / 6AM ET / 11AM BST, placing it twelve hours ahead of the State of Play broadcast, though we will likely see more footage during the Sony event later in the day.

Though it’s not far off, we don’t have to wait for the reveal to get a sense of what Maverick Games has been working on. And I must say, the visual direction looks impressive.

The project remains untitled for now but one thing that sets it apart from Forza Horizon is its focus on narrative. Like Horizon, it will feature an open-world environment but Maverick Games is building the experience around storytelling as much as driving. That’s a different angle in a genre where story often takes a back seat to cars and competition. Whether it’s a good decision or not, time will tell.

Of course, expectations should also remain realistic. The game’s budget and resources are nowhere near the level of Forza Horizon especially after Amazon stepped away as publisher. Still, with Mike Brown and several former Forza Horizon devs behind it, it’s hard not to be at the very least, curious, as to what the team has managed to put together.
