Falcom finally cracked open the roster for Kyoto Xanadu—and the character designs are striking. The latest update introduces heavy hitters from rival factions to challenge the dual-wielding protagonist Rei Kamiya.

Leading the “Starry Night Travelers” is 13-year-old Lear Beresford. She wields floating magical tools and operates with a ruthless pragmatism well beyond her actual age.

Her right-hand is Eliza Alcott, an 18-year-old rapier specialist. Eliza brings a gallant, butler-like energy to the team—making her an instant favorite among the academy’s student body.

On the opposing side stands Hosen Suruga, an 18-year-old researcher tied to the international syndicate Zodiac. Rounding out the reveals is Luana Calderone, universally adored and known as the “Saint of Siena” for her relentless volunteer work.


Mastering the Dual-Dimensional System

The real mechanical meat of the update focuses on how you actually fight. Kyoto Xanadu introduces the “Dual Dimensional” battle system.

This mechanic lets you swap between traditional 2D action and full 3D arena combat on the fly. Players equip “Soul Devices” to chain standard strikes, strong attacks, and special magic bullets.

According to official developer previews, mastering aerial combos and perfectly-timed dodges is mandatory. Dodging grants brief invincibility frames, allowing you to slip right behind aggressive enemies.

The defensive mechanics are incredibly strict but highly rewarding. Nailing a perfect guard triggers a parry, dropping enemy damage to zero and staggering them completely.

From there, you can execute an “Issen“—a devastating timed counterattack. Pair that timing with the “Soul Accel” buff, and you can absolutely melt boss health bars in seconds.

Release Date and Pricing Realities

The official launch hits Japan and Asia on July 16, 2026 across PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A Western localization is already confirmed and actively in the works. Although it most likely won’t be a synchronized release as it happened with Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
