Square Enix has announced it has canceled mobile game Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, but it continues to work on Kingdom Hearts 4. Missing Link was an upcoming GPS-based action RPG for iOS and Android, but Square Enix has cut development as it could not promise a “satisfactory” service.

Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, an upcoming GPS-based mobile game, has been canceled by Square Enix as the developer continues to work on Kingdom Hearts 4.
Square Enix took to social media to thank fans who had played its numerous beta tests, but ultimately decided that it would be best to cancel the game to focus on the future of the franchise with KH4.
What Was Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link?
Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link was announced in 2022 at the Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event, and was planned to launch in 2025 for Android and iOS mobile devices.
The story of the game introduces new characters to the franchise and incorporates GPS and augmented reality (AR) features, similar to the immensely popular Pokémon GO. This design encourages players to go outside and explore their surroundings while playing.”
Why Square Enix Canceled the Game
Unfortunately, following multiple delays in 2022, 2023, and 2024, Square Enix has decided that after several beta tests, Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is not worth continuing. In an apology to fans on X, the company determined “that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development.”
While the game’s cancellation is disappointing, there is some good news, and that is that the company confirmed Kingdom Hearts 4 is still in development. Thanking fans for their continued support, Square Enix asked everyone to keep an eye out for further updates as “The Kingdom Hearts series will continue.”
