Lionsgate just dropped a massive hint for action and horror fans. A high-budget John Wick game and a new Saw adaptation are actively in development.
Adam Fogelson, a top executive at Lionsgate, confirmed the studio is exploring “AAA game opportunities” for these franchises during a recent earnings call. This isn’t just a small mobile tie-in; they are aiming for major console and PC releases.

Lionsgate Targets AAA Gaming
During the Lionsgate Studios Q2 2026 Earnings Call, Fogelson addressed questions about how the studio plans to monetize its biggest intellectual properties. He revealed that the studio is looking at “meaningfully additive” financial opportunities in the gaming sector.
The strategy involves a mix of licensing and direct investment. Fogelson noted that interest in the John Wick universe has spiked, partly due to the success of the John Wick Experience in Las Vegas.
He explicitly stated that news regarding John Wick, Saw, and potentially other franchises “will be announced soon.” This signals a shift from smaller experimental titles to heavy-hitting blockbusters.
John Wick: Aiming for the Head
The John Wick franchise has struggled to find its footing in gaming. While the strategy game John Wick Hex garnered some praise, it didn’t capture the visceral, fast-paced combat of the films. It was eventually delisted from stores in July due to licensing expirations.
A true AAA adaptation offers a chance to fix this. Fans have long demanded a third-person shooter that replicates the “gun-fu” style of the movies. With high-budget backing, this project could finally deliver the experience players crave.
Saw: Return of the Traps
The Saw franchise is also set for a revival. Leaks from late 2023 by an insider known as “The Tipster” suggested a survival game codenamed “Project Gideon” was already in the works.
Reports indicate a single-player experience is approved, with multiplayer concepts under discussion. It has been over 15 years since Konami published the last Saw games. A modern, high-fidelity return to Jigsaw’s twisted world fits perfectly with the current resurgence of the survival horror genre.
Verdict: Can Movie Games Work?
History is littered with bad movie tie-ins, but the trend is changing. With Lionsgate taking a “AAA” approach, they are signaling a commitment to quality rather than quick cash grabs.
If the studio partners with experienced developers who understand the mechanics of survival horror and tactical shooters, these titles could dominate the charts. However, without the right gameplay loop, even the strongest IP will fail.
