Helldivers 2’s Latest Patch Targets AFK Players & Server Capacity

Helldivers 2 Starts Kicking AFK Players

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has dropped a new patch for the massively popular third-person shooter that targets AFK players and server capacity, in an attempt to get more players into the game.

It’s no secret Helldivers 2 is a good game, and it’s even more obvious just how popular it is when you try and play it. Since its release, Helldivers 2 has struggled with its own success, with thousands of players unable to get into the game due to an overload of the servers.

Arrowhead tried to alleviate some of the pressure by capping the available active player slots to 450,000 over the last weekend, but that backfired spectacularly with players navigating around it by going AFK and not logging out of the game due to the fear they wouldn’t be able to get back in if they did so. There were even reports of some players being AFK in the game for up to three days to avoid the login queues.

Of course this led to longer, if not impossible, queue times for many others, simply freezing them out of Helldivers 2. Now, in a bid to fix it, the devs have increased the player cap to 700,000 and announced AFK players will be auto-kicked after 15 seconds of inactivity, forcing them to log in again.

These changes should work in the short term, but there are those will say players will always find a way to avoid AFK-kicks and that if the game increases in popularity, the server capacity will once again need to be looked at.
