Hasbro has officially halted development on the upcoming single-player Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game from Giant Skull. Despite the project’s sudden cancellation less than a year after its initial announcement, CEO Stig Asmussen says “things are good” at the studio.

- Hasbro has officially canceled the single-player Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game in development at Giant Skull.
- Stig Asmussen confirmed his studio remains operational and is actively seeking new publishing opportunities.
- Other Dungeons & Dragons video games, including Invoke Studios’ upcoming title Warlock, are still in active development.
In another blow to Dungeons and Dragons fans, Giant Skull’s single-player action-adventure game, which was announced in June 2025, has been canceled, becoming the second D&D game axed following Starbreeze’s Project Baxter in October 2025.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson stated they “have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team.”
Addressing the situation directly, Asmussen himself has reassured the industry, confirming that “things are good at Giant Skull.”

Why Did Hasbro Cancel the Giant Skull D&D Game?
A Hasbro spokesperson said the company chose “not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull,” but stressed that they still have “great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team.”
The title was intended to be a robust, single-player action-adventure experience built for PC and current-generation consoles. Despite generating massive excitement when announced in June 2025, Wizards of the Coast quietly exited the partnership.
This move follows the recent closure of another internal developer, Atomic Arcade, signaling a broader reorganization at Hasbro.
What Is the Future for Stig Asmussen and Giant Skull?
Asmussen has reassured fans that the studio remains “good” and that Giant Skull is seeking other opportunities to work with Hasbro and other publishers.
Giant Skull was founded by Asmussen after he departed from EA, where he directed acclaimed hits like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. He assembled a team of industry veterans dedicated to crafting high-quality, narrative-driven experiences.
Tracing the brief history of the project reveals a rapid turnaround. Asmussen formed Giant Skull in early 2024, followed by the highly publicized D&D partnership announcement in June 2025. By May 2026, the publishing agreement had been officially terminated.
Will There Be Other Dungeons & Dragons Video Games?
Yes, multiple Dungeons & Dragons video games remain in active development across various studios, including the upcoming third-person action game Warlock from Invoke Studios.
The franchise remains a powerhouse, largely driven by the monumental, award-winning success of Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3.
