Halo Infinite Gets Surprise PvE Update Evolving Classic Firefight

The Gauntlet update introduces an auto-scaling, boss-filled PvE experience to the franchise
Key Takeaways
  • Halo Infinite just received a major, unannounced content update featuring the massive Firefight: Gauntlet mode.
  • The four-player PvE mode features dynamic difficulty scaling, a new AI Aggro system, and upgradeable player attributes.
  • The multiplayer update is available now across Xbox and PC, completely free to play for all users.

A New Level of PvE Combat

The development team at Halo Studios has officially deployed a major, unannounced update for Halo Infinite. Six months after the supposed final content drop, this patch introduces a high-intensity PvE experience designed to test the limits of veteran players.

Firefight: Gauntlet demands that four players coordinate to survive five escalating battle arena simulations. Each arena throws endless waves of Banished and Forerunner forces at the squad.

Progression requires eliminating the arena’s specific champions. The difficulty dynamically auto-scales based on performance, and taking too long forces the formidable Harbinger into the fight.

Between rounds, teams have a 30-second window in a central hub to restock weapons. Here, players spend earned points at terminals to upgrade four core attributes: Damage, Recovery, Resistance, and Speed.

How Does the AI Aggro System Work?

The AI Aggro system actively tracks and displays which Spartan is currently drawing the most enemy attention. Eliminating targets increases a player’s aggro, causing arena champions to focus their attacks entirely on that specific individual.

This mechanic forces teams to strategize dynamically throughout the simulation. Players can actively manage their aggro levels using specific equipment and positioning.

Activating an Overshield instantly draws all enemy fire, while deploying a Shroud Screen or using Active Camo drops aggro entirely. The player with the highest heat level receives a visible VIP marker on the HUD.

Exploring the Munera Platform Arenas

The update introduces two bespoke Forge maps optimized specifically for the Gauntlet experience. Munera Platform H6 features enclosed arenas set within a Banished train car and a Flood-infested Forerunner facility.

Munera Platform W4 shifts the aesthetic entirely, pushing players through a pristine Forerunner chamber and a sprawling UNSC hangar.

Each run randomizes the order of the five battle arenas, the composition of the enemy waves, and the specific champions that spawn. Defeating a champion adds their weapon to the armory for the next restock phase.

Are More Updates Coming to Halo Infinite?

Microsoft and Halo Studios have not confirmed if further content updates are planned for Halo Infinite beyond this release. The studio previously stated in November 2025 that their primary focus had shifted to upcoming standalone projects.

This unexpected patch proves the development team still actively monitors the title. The addition of a fully featured PvE mode suggests the infrastructure remains in place for sudden content drops.

Players can access this new mode immediately on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While the core campaign retails for just under €60, the multiplayer suite housing Gauntlet remains completely free to play.

Note: Prices and availability may change.
