Refusing to Buy a PS5 for GTA 6? Xbox Reportedly Has an Exclusive Backup Plan
New reports have revealed that Xbox has secured exclusive streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, meaning Xbox Cloud Gaming users can stream GTA 6 from launch day.
Key Takeaways
- Xbox has secured exclusive cloud streaming rights to bring GTA 6 to PC and mobile devices on launch day.
- Accessing the cloud stream requires purchasing the base game alongside an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
- Players are restricted by a strict 15-hour monthly streaming cap and must purchase additional hours to continue playing.
Microsoft has reportedly secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, which will bring Rockstar Games’ upcoming massive open-world action game to devices beyond traditional consoles through dedicated server technology.
By getting the exclusive rights to stream GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft provides an immediate workaround for players lacking a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
How will GTA 6 cloud streaming work?
Xbox Cloud Gaming serves as the exclusive launch workaround for PC and mobile users who lack an Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
Microsoft processes the heavy graphical workload on remote server blades and streams the live video feed directly to your device via a high-speed internet connection.
According to The Verge, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees during a meeting that this cloud streaming deal means Xbox is doing what “no other platform holder is doing.”
What are the costs and limits of streaming GTA 6?
Streaming the title requires a Game Pass Ultimate subscription alongside purchasing the base game. Microsoft imposes a strict 15-hour monthly playtime cap on cloud sessions for Ultimate tier members.
Players who exceed this limit must purchase supplementary pay-as-you-go hour bundles to continue their progress.
Is streaming GTA 6 the right choice for you?
Choosing the cloud route depends entirely on your available hardware and internet stability. The streaming option provides immediate accessibility for users without a current-generation console.
Conversely, the mandatory subscription fees, potential latency issues, and the restrictive 15-hour monthly cap make the native console experience objectively superior.
