Is There a Preload for Gothic 1 Remake?
At this moment, there is no officially confirmed preload date for Gothic 1 Remake. Neither Steam nor the console storefronts list a specific time for pre-downloading the game files.
PlayStation 5 users who preordered the game will see a note about automatic downloads, provided their system settings are enabled. However, without a fixed date from the publisher, players should assume they will need to download the game at launch.
Regarding storage, Alkimia Interactive has confirmed that PC players must set aside around 60 GB of free space. Given the scope of this role-playing game, a day-one patch could increase this footprint further.
PC System Requirements
To explore the dark fantasy world of the penal colony, PC players will need a modern setup. In particular at least 8GB of VRAM is required and at least 16GB of RAM. On top of that developers have stated that an SSD is strictly required to run the game properly. Weirdly enough CPU requirements seem pretty lax, but they haven’t stated resolution and target framerate of the said requirements.

How the Modernized Combat System Works
As we shared in our article about the conclusive Deepdive, The developers have completely overhauled the 2001 directional combat mechanics, avoiding standard light and heavy shoulder button attacks. Instead, weapons like axes, swords, and maces feature unique swing weights and tactical pacing.
Because the remake lacks a traditional stamina bar, spacing and positioning dictate the flow of melee engagements. Players must actively manage their distance from enemies, especially when surrounded by hunting packs that utilize advanced artificial intelligence.
As the protagonist levels up, their initially clumsy attack patterns evolve into masterful, agile movements. This visual progression ensures that combat mastery requires learning enemy patterns and adapting, rather than simply equipping better gear.
