Once canceled earlier this year, Bluepoint Games’ mysterious God of War project has reappeared with a batch of leaked images offering our first real glimpse into what might have been.

Canceled God of War Project by Bluepoint Games Resurfaces with Never-Before-Seen Images

A Forgotten God of War Project Comes Back to Light

When God of War celebrated its 20th anniversary this past March, many fans hoped Playstation and Santa Monica Studio would mark the occasion with the announcement of a new entry in the saga. Despite numerous rumors — including whispers of a 2.5D metroidvania-style spinoff — the celebration came and went with no major reveal.

That is, except for one key detail: the quiet cancellation of a live-service God of War title by Bluepoint Games, which has now resurfaced through a series of leaked screenshots.According to journalist Jason Schreier’s January report, Sony’s internal restructuring led to the cancellation of several live-service titles, affecting studios such as Bend and Bluepoint

Until now, little was known about Bluepoint’s project — a God of War game that never saw the light of day. Thanks to MP1st, which obtained over 20 early-development screenshots, we now have a better idea of what the project looked like.

A Return to Ancient Greece

The images suggest that Bluepoint’s canceled title was set once again in ancient Greece — the mythological backdrop of the original six God of War games. Some familiar faces from the early series were reportedly part of the concept, including the god Hades, last seen in God of War III.

It remains unclear whether the project was meant to be canon within the main storyline, but evidence points to it being a prequel taking place before the end of the Greek arc. Intriguingly, some of the leaked screenshots hint at a “curse system” designed to alter environments — a mechanic that may have directly impacted gameplay and narrative tone.

A Mysterious Canceled Adventure

While the leaks shed light on the project’s atmosphere and artistic direction, they leave major questions unanswered. There’s still no clear information on the planned gameplay structure or story. For now, all that remains are these atmospheric glimpses of what could have been.

Currently, Bluepoint Games is actively hiring for its next project, fueling speculation about what the studio is working on next. Could it be a God of War remaster? A long-awaited Bloodborne remake? Or a brand-new IP entirely? Fans can only speculate — but one thing’s certain: the studio’s next reveal will be closely watched by the PlayStation community.

In Conclusion

This resurfaced God of War project offers a fascinating glimpse into an alternate vision of the series — one that blends mythological roots with new mechanics. Would you have liked to see Bluepoint’s take on Kratos’ world? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
