On 15th April 2024, Bandai surprised fans by announcing the arrival of One Piece Odyssey on Nintendo Switch. Initially, the title, previously available only on PC and old/new generation consoles, had not been released on Nintendo Switch.
This is great news for fans of Eiichiro Oda’s famous series, especially for those who want a new adventure without having to choose between Musou or Fighting games based on the series.
Announced on 28 March 2022, during the 25th Anniversary celebrations of One Piece, One Piece Odyssey finally released on 12 January 2023, on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5, with the Switch version strangely missing. Based on the eponymous Manga and Anime series, One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based JRPG where Luffy’s Straw Hat crew finds themselves stranded on a mysterious island. Here they will encounter not only new characters, curated and conceived by Oda himself, but also relive their most important adventures to finally escape the island.
A distinctly unique One Piece game, which has been quite appreciated although it does not yet represent the realization that everyone would expect from the franchise. With the ability to relive some of the most iconic scenes and battles with turn-based JRPG mechanics. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4 but with a turn-based style and stylized, not overly detailed graphics, One Piece Odyssey should run smoothly on Nintendo Switch.
The fateful release date of One Piece Odyssey on Switch is set for 26th July 2024, but that’s not all. In fact, the Switch version of the game seems to be the Deluxe Edition, which includes the game content of the additional episode “Reunion of Memories,” the Traveling Outfit costume set for the crew (including Sniper King/Sogeking), and the exclusive content for Nintendo Switch, City of Water, which adds the set of clothes worn by the crew during the Water 7 Saga.
Fantastic news for fans who were eager to try the new adventure of the crew, an adventure that, in the form of a turn-based JRPG, would prove quite suitable on Nintendo Switch in handheld mode.
