Since its launch in June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been a gaming powerhouse. Handling backward compatibility and beefy third-party ports with ease. But if you wanted to watch a quick walkthrough or catch up on your favorite creators, you had to put the console down and pick up your phone. That feels wrong given it’s Online Features.
Fortunately, according to a fresh leak, that minor annoyance is about to become history.
Finally: The App We Actually Need
It looks like the silence is breaking. According to a report from Koytek Wattenberg Media, the YouTube app is slated to hit the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime this February.
The info reportedly comes from a moderator on YouTube’s official Discord server. It was then picked up and dissected by the community on Reddit. While we always have to keep a pinch of salt handy for Discord leaks, the timing lines up perfectly. We’ve been hearing “soon” for months.
A February drop would bridge the gap perfectly before the next major first-party wave hits.
Imagine docking the system to binge content on the big screen, or just propping it up on the kickstand while you cook. It turns the Switch 2 from a pure gaming rig into the all-rounder tablet it was always meant to be.
NS2: A Long Road to Streaming
This update has been a massive test of patience. Back in June, right around launch, the official YouTube team said they were “working with Nintendo” to get the app ready.
They repeated that promise in October, but then went radio silent. The frustration has been real. The hardware is more than capable—it’s actually overkill for streaming. The delay likely came down to software optimization or UI scaling for the new screen resolution.
With Mario Tennis Fever launching in just a few weeks, the timing is crucial. We’re going to need YouTube ready to go so we can look up strategies and shot guides without leaving the console. If this leak holds water, we’ll be streaming before March rolls around.

Verdict: About Time?
Absolutely. The Switch 2 feels fantastic to play, but without basic media apps, it feels incomplete compared to modern standards. Adding YouTube (and hopefully other streaming services soon) locks in the value proposition.
Are you going to use your Switch 2 for videos, or is it strictly for gaming in your house?
