Now, all attention turns to its sequel, unofficially known as Cyberpunk 2, as CD Projekt RED finally shares new development insights.

Project Orion: The Next step for Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt RED’s latest financial briefing offered a clearer look at the studio’s development priorities. While The Witcher 4 remains the company’s main production, Cyberpunk 2 is steadily gaining momentum. As of now, 133 developers are working full-time on the project, an increase compared to mid-2025 staffing numbers.
The studio also confirmed plans to expand the Cyberpunk 2 team to 300–400 developers by 2027, divided between the main Warsaw studio and the Boston branch. This shift gives the American team increased creative leadership, a move designed to strengthen the authenticity of the game’s futuristic U.S. setting.

Cyberpunk 2: The First Real Release Window Emerges
CD Projekt RED tempered expectations: Cyberpunk 2 will not launch before 2028. The timeline reflects today’s reality—AAA games take longer than ever to make, and the studio’s transition to Unreal Engine 5 has been more complex than expected, especially during the development of The Witcher 4.
While a 2028 release may sound distant, it is still considered “early” by industry observers who expected a 2029–2030 window. This suggests Cyberpunk 2 has already entered a more structured production phase compared with the early pre-production of past titles. Meanwhile the team also announced an astonishing 35 million copies sold for CP77.

CDPR always had a fair share of issues in its games at release but Cyberpunk 2077 was even rougher, specially on consoles. The main issue for me related to their transition to using UE5 is the performance and optimization, there's also the fact that they're working on multiple titles at the same time, but their games have been pretty amazing so far so I'm hopeful they can deliver again.
