A new Steam in-game performance monitor overlay has been launched by Valve, allowing players to track their PC performance in real time while playing their favorite games.
In a new blog post, Valve says the new feature “is designed to help you understand how your PC is performing and how it is impacting your game’s performance.”
What Is the New Steam Overlay?
The new Steam overlay features an expanded performance panel, displaying four levels of detail as outlined by Valve: “Single FPS Value, FPS Details, FPS Details, CPU & GPU Utilization, and FPS, CPU, GPU & RAM Full Details.”
Additionally, the performance monitor overlay is customizable, allowing users to select which specific metrics they want to display, providing better insight into their PC’s performance. You can see an overview of what it does in the pic below via IGN.
How to Enable Steam’s Real-Time Performance Monitoring
To enable the new overlay, head to Steam>Settings>In Game and find “performance monitor.” Users can choose to display basic FPS details or a full performance breakdown in real-time while in-game.
There are also options to enable a hotkey to switch the performance monitor on and off, adjust text size, and change background opacity.
