Jason Voorhees returns as a new Friday the 13th sequel film and video game are officially in development, confirmed at SDCC 2025 by Horror Inc.
Jason Voorhees is coming back both to the big screen and the small screen. According to Horror Inc. vice president Robbie Barsamian, a brand-new Friday the 13th sequel film and a new video game are now officially in early development.
Friday the 13th Is Back: Movie and Game Sequel Confirmed at SDCC 2025
Among the many reveals and trailers at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, one announcement stood out to horror fans: the long-dormant Friday the 13th franchise is officially getting both a new film sequel and a video game.
For decades, Jason Voorhees has been one of horror’s most iconic figures, with his hockey mask and machete being burned into pop culture history. But in recent years, the franchise has been quiet, especially for younger audiences who may not have grown up with the same fear (or fun). So hearing Friday the 13th mentioned again is exactly the kind of return longtime fans were hoping for.
The news came straight from Robbie Barsamian, speaking during a special panel celebrating Horror Inc.’s 45th anniversary.
“I can tell you that a new sequel movie and a new sequel game are at the top of our list. It’s where most of our energy’s going right now. And I can tell you finally we’re in a position to deliver on that. While we’re not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works and they’re both coming.”
It’s exciting news for fans who have been waiting for something new from the franchise. The last time Jason appeared on the big screen was in the 2009 reboot, now more than 16 years ago. Since then, fans have only had a few appearances in games, most notably Friday the 13th: The Game, and scattered rumors of new films that never materialized.
No release dates or specific details were revealed at the panel but the confirmation that both a film and game are in development is enough to reignite interest in the franchise. With Horror Inc. now openly talking about what’s ahead, and the SDCC stage used to deliver the message, it’s clear that Friday the 13th is preparing for a proper comeback.
What form these projects will take remains to be seen but after years of silence, Jason Voorhees is officially back on the radar. And in the world of horror, that’s always something to be afraid of… or excited for.

Quite surprising, given the fact that the previous game was abandoned and removed from Steam. I played it for some time and liked it, although the gameplay was way too repetitive. Hopefully, the sequel of Friday the 13th will be more various, with the same ambiance of retro horror movies.
