Metal Gear Solid Series Producer Says Konami Is Still Deciding What to Make Next

The recent launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of MGS3, has reignited interest among fans who want more remakes of older franchise titles.

Speaking during a recent interview with Real Sound, series producer Noriaki Okamura acknowledged that while fans would love a Metal Gear Solid 4 remake, the developers have yet to decide what the next project could be.

The Metal Gear Solid Remake Roadmap Debate

Delta launched in August 2025, modernizing Metal Gear Solid 3 from 2004 with enhanced visuals and improved gameplay while keeping the same story.

Okamura says Delta has helped him to “create an opportunity for new people” to play the game and experience the Metal Gear franchise, something that he wants to “continue” doing.

However, doing so to all the games in the franchise is somewhat of a challenge, as Okamura explains, stating that the series “ranges from pixel art to cinematic expressions,” which requires a different “method” for each one.

The MGS4 Challenge: PS3-Era Code Difficulties

Although Konami has not decided on its next steps, Okamura recognized that fans are now requesting a remake of Metal Gear Solid 4, noting that it would be “pretty hard” to achieve after all these years.

In particular, Okamura cited the unique PS3-era hardware and MGS4’s code, noting that the original developers had to use “pretty special construction to deliver 3D performance with the technology available at the time.”

Okamura’s comments suggest that the PS3-exclusive title will be part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, rather than getting a remake like MGS3.

Looking Ahead for the Franchise

While Konami is yet to decide on which direction to take the Metal Gear franchise, Okamura says it “may be remakes,” but it could also be “new works.” With fans left wondering about the next major title, Okamura offered a little update on the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, saying they are “working on it properly” and it is “coming.”
