David Leitch is reportedly in talks to direct the Netflix Gears of War movie adaptation in collaboration with The Coalition. The film is a big-budget production and will be faithful to the video game series.

Netflix is reportedly in talks with Fall Guy director David Leitch to direct and produce the big-budget Gears of War action film via his production company 87North, along with game developer The Coalition.

In a report by Hollywood Reporter, Leitch and his wife, Kelly McCormick, will produce the feature, with Dune writer Jon Spaihts writing the script.

Who Is David Leitch?

David Leitch is a former stuntman-turned-actor, director, writer, and producer, having co-created John Wick and directed Deadpool 2 and the recent action comedy Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

Leitch’s expertise in choreographed, high-energy action and spectacular set pieces, along with his experience in adaptations and spin-offs, such as with 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which he directed, make Leitch an ideal director for a Gears of War adaptation.

What We Know About the Gears of War Movie

Netflix announced it had acquired the rights to make a Gears of War movie in 2022, calling it an adaptation of the “video game saga,” which many believe means it will remain faithful to the games developed by The Coalition.

The upcoming action film will be written by Jon Spaihts, in collaboration with The Coalition. If David Leitch is confirmed as the director, audiences can expect gritty, grounded action featuring massive and visually stunning combat sequences.

What’s Next For Gears of War?

The Coalition is currently working on the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, which will launch in late 2025 for the Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game is being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 and promises cutting-edge visuals and best-in-class gameplay.

In the meantime, a remaster of the first game in the series is coming on August 26, 2025. “Gears of War: Reloaded” will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and includes native 4K support and up to 120fps multiplayer.
