Type-Moon and publisher Aniplex recently unveiled major updates for the highly anticipated Fate/Extra remake during the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play. The presentation confirmed the global launch schedule and detailed extensive combat overhauls.

How Does the New Command Card Battle System Work?

Fate/Extra Record completely abandons the original rock-paper-scissors combat mechanics in favor of a strategic, deck-building Command Card system. Players construct custom decks featuring Attack, Guard, and Skill commands to overcome digital enemies in the Moon Holy Grail War.

Mastering this new system requires players to adapt their tactics. Each Servant features unique abilities and distinct combat styles that dictate optimal deck construction.

Players expand their tactical options by exploring the SE.RA.PH dungeons. Treasure boxes and defeated enemies yield new Command cards, providing constant progression throughout the tournament.


Fate/Extra Record Pre-Orders and Editions

Marvelous Europe and XSEED Games will soon open physical pre-orders across participating retailers. The Standard Edition retails for under €60 on consoles and PC, while the Switch 2 version costs around €70.

Collectors can purchase a physical-only Limited Edition for under €100. This premium package includes a three-disc original soundtrack housed in a SteelBook case and an extensive concept art book. And, at least for now, 2 exclusive physical limited editions in Japan featuring additional goodies.

Digital consumers can opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition. Priced just under €80, this version bundles cosmetic DLC outfit packs and an arranged background music pack from the original Fate/Extra. As well as a pre-order bonus featuring the Tsukumihara Academy outfit for the 3 main Servants.
