About this game

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is an action-fighting game that is a self-remaster of the 1994 spinoff to Taito’s 1987 arcade classic. The game has two new characters, new combos, and extra moves. Choose one of the five that has different ninjutsu each. Play solo or with a ninja partner. Return of the Warriors expands its playfield from 4:3 to 6:3 to add more animation and heavily redrawn backgrounds.

Reviews

While I would have personally preferred the addition of three-player support, or even extra stages or modes, Natsume and Project Tengo did a great job of resurrecting a classic for modern audiences and adding two new playable characters. Other cool features include a timer to encourage speed runs, with online leaderboard support, and being able to unlock the soundtracks from the original and the ’94 games. Beautiful sprite art and animation, and a nostalgic-inducing soundtrack add wonderfully to the experience as well.

Digital Chumps

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is a great side-scrolling brawler. Being an arcade-style title it’s quite short but the desire to hit the leaderboards with a 1 Credit Clear has kept me dipping back in every now and then.

Playstation Country

The beautiful high-resolution pixel art graphics are true to the SNES game but have greater detail, brighter colors, and more vivid effects. The sound composer Hiroyuki Iwatsuki returns to retain his original 1994 work – with bass-heavy, upbeat arcade tunes driving the brawling action – as the catchy music is boosted by arrangements from TAITO’s house band, Zuntata.
