With that in mind, it is also one that comes with many flashes of brilliance, especially if you appreciate open worlds and intense, unique multiplayer. If you’re OK with innovative gameplay taking a front seat to lower-end production values, this is one compelling sandbox-flavored sequel that comes with the extra spice of gunpowder.

Even with the difficulty, the way it is, and the overwhelming feeling you get when looking at the map for the first time, I can’t help but love the game. It really is enjoyable after you get used to how the game works. Managing your squad of mercs and leveling up your character is fun and addictive. The multiplayer is a blast, and the battles just feel so epic.

There’s still a lot of good here, and if you haven’t played Mount & Blade before then this is a fine place to start, but for fans of the series, Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword simply isn’t a must-have expansion.
