A world of rare morbidity, so dark yet poetic at the same time. A mother defies death to try to resurrect her son in a roguelike/deckbuilder game, where you face enemies from hell and a deadly imagination on a grid. The game claims to be soulslike, it is punishing and forces the player to focus on combos, synergies and intelligent deck building. I absolutely love the atmosphere and gameplay direction.
For being a pixel art deck builder game Death Howl also manages to look very creepy with the chosen color palette, which adds to the setting of dark spirits and mystical totems. I don’t get well the souls part in a deckbuilding game but I guess the turn based fights must be especially hard, so it will be appealing to those that look for a real hard game in this kind of gameplay but maybe will not be for everybody, a shame considering how cool it looks.
Death Howl looks like it could be a solid mix of souls‑like challenge and card‑game strategy, playing as Ro, a grieving mother fighting through a grim spirit world feels heavy but purposeful. The deck‑building plus tactical, grid‑based combat give each fight a sense of weight and planning rather than just button‑mashing.
