Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is an upcoming title of the now renown Yakuza Series. To be specific it’s a spinoff set to take place between the events of Yakuza 6, Yakuza: Like a Dragon and the upcoming 2024 entry, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
This anticipated title is set to release on November 8 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
This spinoff will feature the return of the beloved character of Kazuma Kiryu, who after the events of Yakuza 6 has decided to fake his death to protect his family. Becoming a disciple of the Daidoji faction, becoming one of their secret agents as Joryu. Unfortunately during one of said missions, his identity seems to have been compromised by an unknown figure. Forcing Kiryu, as Joryu, to resolve the situation and protect his family. We’ll see the return of various characters like The Mad Dog of Shimano Goro Majima, The Slayer of Eighteen Taiga Saejima and the 6th Chairman of the Tojo Clan Daigo Dojima. Among many new and returning faces.
As Kiryu we’ll be able to explore the two districts of Sotenbori in Osaka, and Isezakicho in Yokohama. With a whole new location known as the Castle, serving the purpose to be the location of various side activities, a thing the series is quite known for. As well as the chance to play quite a few classic Sega Master System titles such as Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Secret Command (Rambo: First Blood Part II), Daytona USA 2 and many more!
As always the funny and over the top fighting returns as well. With Kiryu being able to use two different styles: Yakuza and Agent. The first being more aggressive resembling the classic style our hero has always adopted. And the latter a new fighting experience making use of several hi-tech gadgets as well as being more swift and precise.
A rather welcomed bonus is hidden within the game. In fact those who will complete the game will be able to access an exclusive demo for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the main-line title coming January 26 2024, starring Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu and set in Hawaii. As of now the demo has been confirmed to feature content crafted exclusively for it, at least story wise, but as far as gameplay and exploration goes it should be an interesting early snippet to the upcoming game.
