Fallout Creator Tim Cain is Back Full-Time At Obsidian with a New Project in Development
Fallout creator Tim Cain returns to Obsidian full-time, confirming he’s working in-studio on a new, undisclosed project.
Tim Cain, the legendary creator who brought us Fallout, is out from semi-retirement. He announced that he’s back working at Obsidian Entertainment as an in-person full-time employee, and currently working on a project.
Tim Cain Creates At Obsidian Entertainment Again
Tim Cain and Obsidian Entertainment go back a long time. The Fallout creator originally joined the studio as a programmer in 2011, and has worked on many titles including South Park and Pillars of Eternity. He eventually left in 2020 but has been on remote contractual work, even co-directing The Outer Worlds and consulting for its sequel which came out this year.
On a YouTube video he posted on his channel, he confirms that he is back at Obsidian Entertainment full time. No remote work and no working on titles elsewhere. He also mentions that he is working on a new project in the studio but is in no legal capacity to disclose anything as he is under NDA.
Of course, fans are speculating what this is, and even got excited for a new Fallout game. However, that seems unlikely as Cain said, “Don’t bother guessing, you’re not going to guess right.” With this line, I think it’s safe to say it isn’t Fallout.
As for his YouTube channel, Cain said that no one from Obsidian has stopped him from running it. In the end, it’s a personal channel and he’s a veteran in the industry so he knows what is and what is not covered by NDAs.
Between the launches of Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and Grounded 2, plus Tim Cain’s full-time return, 2025 is a landmark year for Obsidian Entertainment.
