Elden Ring Nightreign is the second game in the Elden Ring franchise. It is a standalone adventure in the Elden Ring universe, reinterpreting the franchise in a new way and designed for co-op play. Players must team up in a roguelike-style journey to fight against the various enemies from Elden Ring. Learn more about the game here.

However, for some of the most experienced players, the game felt a bit too easy, and they wanted a new challenge. A new difficulty mode called “Deep of Night” is coming for exactly these players. The update launches on September 11, 2025 and promises tougher enemies, dangerous weapons, and a progressively increasing challenge.
What makes the Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night mode so challenging?
Until now, Elden Ring Nightreign only had one difficulty mode. But since the game is played with 3 players, it became a little too easy for some. Starting on September 11, the Deep of Night mode will arrive. In this mode, all enemies are stronger than usual, and weapons come with additional effects – both positive and negative.
You also can no longer freely choose which Nightlord you face at the end, as this decision is now randomized. The challenge intensifies with every depth. At Depth 4 and 5, you’ll encounter an endless battle mode. Even the scoring system has been slightly reworked.
Impact on gameplay and flow
The increased difficulty gives players a reason to dive back into the game. If you stopped playing because you missed the challenge – now it’s back. The mode offers tougher challenges that require strategic planning, risk management, and progression in strength.
A new loot mechanic is also introduced with the update: Depth Relics and special weapon affixes. These provide certain advantages but always come with drawbacks, forcing players to carefully consider their choices. Since you can no longer pick which Nightlord to fight, you must remain flexible and adaptive.
The new endless mode, available at Depth 4 or Depth 5, adds another layer of challenge. Here, you can compete against players worldwide and see how long your group or you alone can survive.
Conclusion – FromSoftware answers the community’s call
With the Deep of Night mode, FromSoftware delivers exactly what Elden Ring Nightreign veterans asked for: a harsher, more unpredictable, and tactically demanding experience. Thanks to stronger enemies, randomized bosses, new loot mechanics, and the endless mode, there’s now greater motivation to replay the game, significantly boosting its replay value. Starting September 11, FromSoftware is bringing players back into Elden Ring Nightreign.
