This Dune-branded game brings us back into the universe created by Frank Herbert in a new form and has received a good response on Steam from both fans and newcomers to the franchise with well over 8000 reviews sitting at a Mostly Positive 79%.
Dune Spice Wars is a strategy game by Shiro Games, the team behind Northgard and Wartales, which takes us back to the planet Arrakis with a mix of real-time strategy and 4X elements. Inspired directly from the literary saga, Spice Wars puts us in control of one of the factions, of our choice, involved in the conquest of the desert planet. Not only do we have iconic characters such as Duke Leto Atreides, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino, but also new faces. We will also be getting a new House with the DLC House Vernius of Ix. What particularly stands out about Dune Spice Wars is how the team has managed to recreate the political and diplomatic situation of the series, integrating it together with a 4X formula, a bit lighter than usual. This allows even those less passionate about the genre to try the title.
What Shiro Games has brought with Spice Wars is very important for the Dune franchise, which has returned to prominence thanks to Villeneuve’s film series, and Spice Wars is the first of this revival.
