Capcom confirms Dragon’s Dogma 2 sales hit 2.5 million as the RPG continues to draw backlash for a rough launch and its heavy use of microtransactions.
Capcom has confirmed via a press release that the recently released RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 has smashed 2.5 million units sold since its launch on March 22. In comparison, the first Dragon’s Dogma only reached 1 million units sold in its first month of release in 2012.
The announcement doesn’t specify the breakdown of the numbers on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, but it does signify a massive hit for Capcom. Despite the “Mixed” reviews on Steam and the ongoing backlash for the game’s microtransactions and poor performance on PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Capcom’s biggest single-player game launch on Steam, reaching 228,585 concurrent players on Valve’s platform on March 24.
In total, the recent sales have helped the series reach 10 million copies sold, and it doesn’t look like Capcom intend on stopping there. A recent survey from the company was spotted asking players how much they would be willing to spend on Dragon’s Dogma 2, with prices of more than €50 mentioned.
Regardless of what you think of Capcom’s monetization practices or the poor performance on PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a massive success across all platforms. You can expect more content through DLC to come sooner rather than later, as Capcom looks to maximize the game’s potential.
