Blizzard Entertainment’s upcoming Diablo 4 had an open beta test this last weekend, and millions jumped into Sanctuary to try the game before its June release.

The Diablo 4 open beta only allowed players to try out the early game, letting them play through the entirety of Act I and level up to 50.

There were more than 100 dungeons available during the beta, but a lot of the feedback from the weekend was that the dungeons were too similar and had too much backtracking.

Most of the dungeons were about killing every enemy or finding items, both of which took time as players were forced to search everywhere for that missing enemy or elusive item.

Addressing the concerns in a recent interview with Eurogamer, Diablo 4 game director Jo Shely said, “they don’t want players to be running through an empty dungeon. In cases where you’re going to get a key, and you’re running back through an area, there should be enemies showing up to refresh that.”

One way players can do that is during the endgame. After completing the main Diablo 4 campaign, players will get access to Nightmare Dungeons, where they can apply Sigils to modify the dungeons with buffs and nerfs to make them more interesting.

General Manager Rod Fergusson added that during the endgame, dungeons would “have a different ability, now you’re being debuffed this way, and they’re being buffed that way. And it’s going to feel like a much different experience.”

It’s important to remember that it was only an open beta, and Diablo 4 will be judged by its endgame experience more than anything, which you can check out yourself when the action RPG releases on June 6 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
