Guerrilla Games provided an unprecedented solution by handing over their entire engine source code on a USB storage drive alongside a development PC containing assets from Horizon Zero Dawn.

To facilitate cross-border technical collaboration between Amsterdam and Tokyo, Kojima Productions upgraded its internal office network infrastructure from 1Gbps to 10Gbps. Early cinematic experiments caused severe performance bottlenecks, peaking at 200 million vertices per frame. Engineers from Guerrilla Games traveled to Japan to directly restructure the cinematic pipeline.

The collaborative technology was formally named “DECIMA,” referencing Dejima—the artificial island in Nagasaki that historically served as the single trade interface between the Netherlands and Japan.
