Bend Studio lets PC players revert Days Gone to version 1.07 via Steam Beta, offering flexibility after the Broken Road update’s performance issues.
Days Gone is arguably one of the best zombie games there is. It initially launched for PS5 in April 2019, then for PC in May 2021. While many were hoping for a sequel, Bend Studio came out with a remaster for PS5 and the Broken Road update for PC.
The former released fairly smoothly but the latter not so much. The devs released a few patches after the 1.08 update but it seems to not fix all issues. And so with this, an option, which frankly should be available in other games more often, was given to revert back to v1.07. Basically the build before the Broken Road DLC.
Days Gone Beta Branch Option on Steam
Bend Studio continues to earn praise from the community for genuinely listening to player feedback and delivering solutions. Not only did they give us an incredible game, but now, they’re also giving us the freedom to enjoy it on their own terms.
Following update 1.08 which introduced modern improvements and the Broken Road DLC featuring new modes like Horde Assault and Permadeath, some players encountered ongoing performance issues like constant stutters and audio issues.
While subsequent patches addressed parts of these problems, Bend Studio has gone a step further by allowing PC players to revert to version 1.07 through Steam’s Beta Branch. This, however, makes the game incompatible with the Broken Road DLC.
You can switch between versions at any time, but it’s best to back up your save files first as there’s no official support for players moving between builds.
How to revert Days Gone version via Steam Beta Branch
If you’re experiencing performance issues or simply want a more nostalgic experience with the original build of Days Gone, you can easily roll back to the Classic version using Steam’s beta options.
Steps to Download the Classic Version:
- Open your Steam Library and select Days Gone.
- Click the Gear icon on the right side of the screen.
- Choose Properties from the menu.
- In the left sidebar, click Betas.
- From the dropdown menu, select classic to switch to the older build.
Note: This will replace your current installation and download the Classic Patch 1.07 branch.
To return to the latest version, follow the same steps and set Beta Participation to None. Steam will then automatically update the game to the most recent release.
