Darkwood 2 Announced: Ice-Pick Lodge Developing Top-Down Horror Sequel
Hooded Horse and Ice-Pick Lodge have announced Darkwood 2, the top-down horror sequel to Acid Wizard Studio’s 2017 survival game. The upcoming horror will launch for PC “soon.”
Darkwood 2 will expand on the eerie, oppressive atmosphere of the series with an all-new standalone experience that players can jump straight into without playing the first game.
Ice-Pick Lodge is the developer taking over from Acid Wizard Studio, who still owns the IP and is overseeing development, while Hooded Horse is the new publisher.
Gameplay and Features
In a press release, the Darkwood 2 description explains that players will “roam freely around a rich, dangerous world by day, securing what resources you can before seeking shelter at night.”
Players can expect a rich sequel, which features new lands and waters to explore, new terrifying creatures that will strike fear, and “new reasons to pray for the morning light.”
New Developer Ice-Pick Lodge
Fans of the original concerned that Acid Wizard Studio is not developing Darkwood 2 should take comfort that Ice-Pick Lodge is a highly regarded developer, known for the atmospheric, open-world RPG, Pathologic.
Addressing fans, Acid Wizard CEO Gustaw Stachaszewski said, “We believe they will not only honor its spirit but will create something truly exceptional. As for us, we’ll be in the background, making sure it stays true to the original vision.”
Release Date and Platforms
Darkwood 2 is planning to launch for PC and PC Game Pass. So far, there is no information on whether the horror will release for PlayStation or Xbox. However, the first Darkwood game is available on consoles, having launched in 2021, several years after its official PC release in 2017.
