Open-world fans have a new massive benchmark to watch. Pearl Abyss just dropped a bombshell claim about the scale of their upcoming action RPG, Crimson Desert.

According to a new interview from the “New Game Plus showcase” event, the map size doesn’t just rival the genre’s giants—it eclipses them.

Crimson Desert Map vs RDR2

Pearl Abyss isn’t being shy about the scope of Pywel. During the recent showcase, the developers confirmed that the game world is significantly larger than Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2.

To put that into perspective, reports suggest the map is at least double the size of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This isn’t just empty space, either. Will Powers from Pearl Abyss emphasized that the team prioritized density alongside scale.

The goal is a world that feels “alive,” packed with interactive challenges and dynamic events rather than just endless terrain.

 

Dragons and Flight in Crimson Desert

Size means nothing without traversal, and the upcoming RPG has a spectacular solution: dragons. The new footage confirms players can tame and ride these beasts. This aerial mechanic opens up exploration of mysterious floating islands scattered above the continent.

Dragons also serve as major boss encounters. While it remains unclear if you can permanently kill them, the fights promise to be cinematic spectacles.

We also know the game supports NVIDIA GeForce NOW at launch, meaning you won’t necessarily need a “NASA-grade PC” to experience this massive world.

 

Verdict: Is Crimson Desert Worth the Hype?

The release date is currently set for March 19, 2026, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

While the wait is long, the promise of a map dwarfing RDR2 with Skyrim‘s density is a bold pitch. If Pearl Abyss delivers on technical performance, this could define the next generation of open-world RPGs.
