Good news everyone, as Professor Farnsworth would say: the studio Remedy filed a trademark just a few days ago for Control: Resonant with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).
Basically, this means there’s a good chance this catchy little name will be graciously attached to the next installment of Control, which is sure to tantalize fans of the Remedyverse.
A Serious Lead Signed by Nordia
A small clarification, however, as reported by our colleagues at MP1ST, this new project was not filed directly by Remedy, but by the law firm Nordia. So yes, if we wanted to be picky, we could whisper that another company might be behind the request… Except that, well, Remedy has historically gone through Nordia to register all its other games.
Needless to say, this leaves little room for doubt. However, the very nature of Control: Resonant is up for debate. On one hand, the proximity of the filing to the Game Awards suggests it could indeed be a sequel to Jesse Faden’s adventures, which could be presented during Geoff Keighley’s show. But it’s also not impossible that it could be a film or series adaptation of the license.
Control 2 or a TV Series with Annapurna?
In case you forgot, Annapurna Interactive is already financing 50% of the development of Control 2, but is also collaborating with Remedy on the film / television series adaptation of the Control and Alan Wake franchises. And, surprise: the classification of Control: Resonant on the EUIPO covers both video games and this type of audiovisual production.
What is certain, however, is that a new, slightly popular project would do the developers a world of good. Because although Alan Wake 2 was the studio’s best launch, it still took a year to become profitable, according to journalists at Gamekult. As for the multiplayer spin-off FBC Firebreak, we know that its small audience unfortunately failed to inspire investors, despite the updates rolled out since its launch.
See You at the Game Awards?
Never mind. The Game Awards ceremony will take place on December 11, just 10 days from now. It’s not certain that Remedy will unveil anything there, but between their Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, which we’ve heard little about, and this famous Control: Resonant, it’s not hard to imagine our favorite Finns making an appearance on stage.
