On October 19, 2026, the developers temporarily disabled the Content Warning Steam Workshop after discovering potentially malicious content. While community concerns are valid, securing the PC base game for under €4 offers a low-risk entry point to evaluate the vanilla experience without paying the standard store markup.
Is Content Warning Still Worth Playing Without Steam Workshop Mods?
Yes, the game retains substantial value for coordinated groups willing to experience the base mechanics on PC. While the official price remains around €7.50, securing a key for under €4 severely mitigates the temporary lack of mods, offering a highly accessible entry point while Landfall resolves the security issues.
According to Landfall's official security notice, the Workshop shutdown is a preventative measure to protect players from compromised files.
Without community-created suits or expanded lobbies, the game forces players to rely entirely on the studio's original balancing. By acquiring the title at this reduced price point, you are effectively isolating the core gameplay loop from external modifiers.
This discount significantly alters the risk assessment for new players on PC hardware. You gain full access to the official server infrastructure and standard progression system while bypassing the full retail expectation.

What Does the Vanilla Co-op Experience Offer?
The vanilla PC experience relies entirely on surviving the Old World while recording monsters to meet SpöökTube quota requirements. Players must coordinate oxygen management, camera battery life, and physical navigation without the safety nets or custom cosmetic enhancements previously provided by the disabled community modifications.
The core progression system remains intact. Teams explore the underground environment, capture footage of hostile entities, and return to the surface to upload their videos for ad revenue.
This revenue is then used to purchase official in-game equipment, such as better microphones, flashlights, and medical gear.
| Accessible Vanilla Features | Temporarily Disabled Features |
|---|---|
| Standard video recording and saving | Community-made cosmetics and suits |
| Official SpöökTube progression loop | Custom lobby size expanders (over 4 players) |
| Base shop items (flashlights, boom mics) | User-generated monster mods and maps |
| Standard Old World monster roster | Third-party quality-of-life tweaks |
Should You Buy Now or Wait for the Workshop Fix?
For players who consider extensive modding and expanded lobbies mandatory for their cooperative games, waiting for Landfall to restore the Steam Workshop is the most logical decision. The vanilla constraints are noticeable if you are accustomed to highly customized gameplay sessions.
However, for small groups seeking immediate, unmodded cooperative horror, acquiring the game for under €4 is an entirely sensible choice today. You receive the complete intended base game experience at a fraction of the standard cost, with the added benefit of future Workshop support once the security risks are neutralized.
Review official gameplay footage above to verify whether the baseline mechanics and tension meet your squad's expectations before committing to a purchase.
