Sonic Wings Reunion is the new title in the historic Aero Fighters series (Sonic Wings in Japan). A Shmup that first debuted in Arcade in 1992 and was ported to SNES the following year. A second game followed in 1994 published by SNK, with a third in 1995 from Video System.
With Aero Fighters Assault introducing a 3D approach, marking the final chapter of the series and the closure of the original Video System team due to poor reception. With the rights to the series acquired by Hamster Corporation, with ports of the first 3 games on various platforms. Announcing the arrival of Reunion, the new chapter in October 2024. Sonic Wings Reunion: Release Date and Physical Version Coming Soon
Following the surprise announcement from the development team at Hamster Corporation and published by Success, new details have emerged about Sonic Wings Reunion. The new chapter will be available on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC and arcade. Specifically, the digital release will happen in Japan on May 29, 2025 with a simultaneous release on Steam.
The console release will be handled by Red Art Games. With both digital and physical versions for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch coming on October 7, 2025. The team at Hamster also released a new trailer for the game, celebrating the return of the series with a test event held from May 2 to 6 at the Takadanobaba Mikado Game Center in Shinjuku (Japan).
Sonic Wings Reunion: Who is the Development Team and What Does the Game Offer
Reunion marks the return of this classic series after over 25 years of absence. With the team from Hamster Corporation including the return of sound designer Soshi Hosoi. Also featuring Fumihiko Nantoka and his wife Hiroko Yokoyama behind the series’ character designs. And Shinya Nagatomo as Producer of Success, behind the new Cotton series entry for its 30th Anniversary (Cotton Rock’n’Roll).
With Sonic Wings Reunion offering a new chapter set in the year 20XX. Where we’ll lead the Project Blue pilots against the return of the mysterious Fata Morgana organization, which has once again attacked the planet to control global armaments. Offering:
- Characters: Over 8 characters, including idol Mao Mao, the dolphin Whity, and the sky ninja Hien. With unlockable secret characters. Each with their own vehicle and abilities.
- Stages and Coop: 8 stages set in various locations around the world. Also featuring local co-op play.
- Game Options: Multiple difficulty settings and a customizable Training Mode. Plus, support for Tate Mode to play with the screen rotated vertically.
- OST and Menu: Choose between the new soundtrack or tracks from previous chapters. Plus, switchable title screens between Sonic Wings Reunion and Aero Fighters Reunion.
- Localization: Supports English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, as well as Japanese, Korean, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
