Clanfolk just dropped its most ambitious patch yet. Update 18: “New Settlements and Beekeeping” shatters the boundaries of the single homestead.

Since Clanfolk entered Early Access in July 2022, players have been locked to one location. However, with Update 18, you can now migrate, expand, and manage secondary colonies while mastering a sweet new industry.

Update 18 means the “Scottish RimWorld” finally opens up the map. This update allows your clan to leave the initial homestead and settle new territories as you manage resources across distances and prepare expeditions to harsh new biomes like the “Brown One” highland region.

Beekeeping & Renown: The Details

The new Renown system is the long-awaited fix for “Nesters” vs. “Challengers.” Previously, expansion felt forced. Now, Renown acts as a gateway.

You choose when to trigger major world events or migrations. If you want to stay in your cozy starter valley forever, you’re welcome to do so. But, if you want to conquer the map, spend your Renown.

Additionally, wild bees now roam the map, passively boosting crop yields simply by existing near your farms. Players can take this a step further by building hives to domesticate them, generating Honey for food and Wax for crafting candles or sealing.

For those eager to test these systems immediately, the new “Beekeeper’s Legacy” scenario skips the early grind. You begin with a senior expert and an apprentice, letting you focus purely on the new mechanics without starting from scratch.

And for those who wanted more of a challenge, you can now split your clan by sending a party to settle a new hex on the World Map. This requires careful rationing and supply lines. It effectively turns the game from a “house builder” into a “faction manager.”

Is Update 18 Worth It?

This is the best state Clanfolk has ever been in. The addition of multi-settlements solves the mid-game stagnation that plagues many colony sims. If you found the game too small before, the world just got infinitely bigger.
