Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3: Everything to Know Before the Launch

Activision in the last few days has announced a few interesting details about the anticipated third chapter of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot, known as MW3, through the Call of Duty Blog. Notably, this will be the last CoD game to be directly under Activision, as just a few weeks ago the acquisition by Microsoft has just gone through.

This anticipated title is set to release on November 10 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The Story

The title takes place after the events of MW2, starring Vladimir Makarov as the main villain of the story, who appeared at the end of the MW2 campaign. Thus, it’s up to Task Force 141, guided by the seasoned Captain Price, to put an end to the world scale dangers posed by Makarov and his army, the Konni Group.

Campaign

It seems that this time around the team at Sledgehammer Games has decided for a different approach to the usual formula. Instead of a linear campaign of interconnected, but scripted missions, the approach is of Open Combat Missions. Allowing players to approach the different missions as they prefer, either through brute force or through a more strategic and stealthy approach. It’s an evolution of the approach already taken in some of the last few CoD games, but to a further degree of freedom.

Multiplayer & Zombie

The multiplayer is obviously the core of the CoD experience. And already back in September, the team has confirmed that 16 multiplayer maps of the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2, will be available on MW3. Maps carefully modernized and adapted for the new reboot, offering a surprise to longtime fans as well as new players on some of the most iconic and beloved maps of the series.

While Modern Warfare 2 2022 didn’t have a Zombie Mode, just like the original series, this time around a Zombie Mode has been announced for MW3 2023. Probably not unexpected as the 2011 title had Survival Mode, very similar to Zombie. Dubbed as Operation Deadbolt you’ll be able to play as one of the iconic characters in an open world map, in a never ending PvE experience with various objectives, missions and a whole new story.

Early Access

For those who have already preordered the title, early access to the Campaign has been granted starting on November 2. This comes with the chance to unlock early rewards for the Zombie and Multiplayer mode by completing the Campaign and various challenges in it. Pre-loading for the entire game will start on November 8, and following the launch Vault Edition owners will receive their special rewards. With early December the beginning of the first Season, as well as the launch of Warzone map Urzikstan.

System Requirements

As for system requirements, Activision has released them as well. It mostly aligns with last year MW2 requirements, although it’s noticeably more demanding. As last year Competitive for a high refresh experience is only enough for a 60fps one this year, while the same setup as last year Ultra 4K should be enough for this year too.
