Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 - Pre-Order Date Revealed and Launch Price Controversy

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (COD BO7) is the new chapter of the famous first-person shooter series by Activision. Exactly the 22nd installment of the franchise and the seventh in the Black Ops series. It’s an annual release that continues the series’ events, but this time set in the future unlike the 1990s setting of the sixth chapter.

The teaser was surprisingly announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 in June. It brings back David Mason and the timeline is again set in the future, in 2035. Plus the classic CoD Zombies mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – Reveal and Pre-Order Date Confirmation

At the Xbox Games Showcase on 8 June 2025, which gave us many announcements and surprises, the first official teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 dropped. The new chapter of Activision’s famous FPS series confirms the return of iconic David Mason. A future-set chapter in 2035, about 10 years after Black Ops 2’s events.

Just a few days after the official teaser, pre-order news for the game arrived. The date seems to have been revealed by some GameStop promo materials. This news was shared by well-known insider CharlieIntel, confirming some posters will come with pre-orders starting from 20 June 2025.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – Microsoft and the Price Controversy

There’s talk of a special COD BO7 Direct set for Friday 20 June 2025. This news is stirring a big debate in the community. Not just because pre-orders are earlier than usual, likely launching BO7 around October-November like usual for the series, but mainly due to the price issue. Following the strong controversy and criticism over Microsoft’s choice to raise prices.

With The Outer Worlds 2 being the first in Microsoft’s lineup to raise the base game price to 80$/€. And BO7 inevitably being the second title. Following criticism of BO6, a buy-to-play game loaded with microtransactions, from skins to the Battle Pass. Plus recent controversy over ads pushing players to buy in-game skins. Microsoft can “afford it”, encouraging even more users to use Xbox Game Pass, which, like before, will most likely have the new CoD available at launch.

In Conclusion

Call of Duty remains an annual event and one of Activision’s most important titles. The Black Ops series has always been the most loved thanks to Zombies and an interesting story. Featuring a timeline across past, present, and future. With a cool cast that brings back the future timeline of 2035.

But with a game that, just days after its first teaser, already faces a heated debate on price and the monetization model. Making it hard to justify the price for the base experience. Plus Microsoft’s strategy to push more users towards Xbox’s ecosystem with Game Pass. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
